Parents ~ The following is a letter for students explaining our role in order to help students make an informed decision about meeting with us for support. School Counselors are available to support all students at school and every student can request a meeting with us.
Dear Students,
We are your School Counselors, Mrs. Sara and Mrs. Jonaidi! We are here to talk when you have a problem or worry with school, friends, or at home. What we talk about is private, meaning it stays between you and me. We do have to tell if someone has hurt you or if you say you will hurt yourself or another person. One of our jobs is to help keep everyone safe.
Your parents/guardians may be worried about you and want to know how you are doing. If your parents ask what we have talked about, we will check with you first and if you say it’s okay, we will let them know how everything is going.
Sometimes it’s hard to talk about problems and worries. In the beginning it may make you more sad or mad to talk about things, but it usually makes you feel better once you have talked to someone about a problem.
We like to help students think about what is bothering them and figure out the best solutions to their problems. You don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to talk about.
I understand what Ms. Sara and Mrs. Jonaidi have told me and would like to talk to a counselor.
