Mission Statement
The school counselor's mission is to foster a supportive atmosphere in which students can develop emotionally, educationally, behaviorally, and socially by implementing a developmentally appropriate school-wide guidance and counseling program.
Counseling Goals
The counselors at Mountain View Middle School will:
Develop and implement a counseling program focused on the physical, social, intellectual, emotional and vocational growth of the students.
Coordinate activities in the counseling program.
Provide individual and group counseling.
Provide information related to the developmental and psychosocial needs of mid-school students.
Facilitate counseling activities for students, staff and parents.
Serve as a consultant to the school and community.
Uphold the standards of the counseling profession (American School Counseling Association and American Counseling Association Standards and Code of Ethics).
Expected Student Outcome
Students will have the opportunities to:
Develop a sense of belonging in the school setting and an appreciation of educational opportunities available in this learning environment.
Learn to balance the need for being a student and a social being.
Begin to develop an understanding of how personal goals can influence decisions.
Acquire interpersonal and academic skills needed for life.
Recognize conflict situations and learn to use a variety of techniques to resolve conflicts peacefully.
Participate in counseling activities that support personal growth and maturation.
Practice interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to enhance effective communication with others.
