Proposed related arts elective courses are dependent upon funding, availability of highly qualified teachers, and, most importantly, student interest. A lack of any of these criteria may indicate the need for an adjustment in offerings, which may include removing a class. Your class selections help to determine if a class is going to be offered. If too few people sign up for a class, the class may not be offered. Students are ONLY guaranteed one (1) of their selections.

What does a typical schedule at Mountain View School look like?
Students attending MVMS must comply with the CORE TEMPLATE, which requires English, Math, Science, and Social Studies be taken for a full year, each year the student attends school. Related Arts Elective classes will be offered based on enrollment. Depending on grade level, students may choose 2-4 semester-long courses or 1-2 year-long courses. Students will also be required to choose alternate course selections.
Can I change my schedule if I don't like the classes that I was assigned?
Schedules are released in PowerSchool in early July; however, these schedules are tentative. Counselors must first balance the numbers in classes and then fix any errors. Schedules may change based on school-wide needs before the first day of class.
Schedule changes will not be approved for:
Requesting a different teacher
Requesting a different lunch or advisory
Changing elective preferences
Wanting to be in the same classes as friends
Staffing is based on student registration. Please be aware that schedule changes are VERY limited. These are the procedures for schedule change requests during the first week of classes and beyond.
During Week 1:
First 2 days of school schedule changes may be approved for:
A missing class period on the schedule
Placement in the wrong course level
An IEP, 504, or SAT plan indicating the need for different accommodations
Students may request schedule changes on days 3-5 with the following stipulations:
A schedule change form must be submitted to their assigned counselor in Google Classroom
Schedule change requests are only offered for related arts elective classes
Students may not request specific teachers, lunch, or advisory class changes
Must have parent permission to transfer out of advanced courses or music classes
Week 2 and beyond:
Schedule changes can only be approved by the principal after parents have met with the teacher, counselor, and principal/assistant principal.
Parents and students must speak to teachers about their concerns.
A parent/teacher conference should be scheduled to discuss further concerns and possible interventions.
My student has to have certain classes based on their IEP. How will I know they are in the correct classes?
Mountain View Middle School provides a continuum of services for students who are eligible as gifted and students who are eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Special education services are based on the individual needs of the students as noted in their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Services are developed by a team including education professionals, the parent and the student and are delivered in the least restrictive environment. Specialized courses will be adjusted at a later date based on IEP Team recommendations.
Does Mountain View offer advanced classes?
Mountain View offers advanced classes in the four core subjects for every grade level. Core classes follow a district-approved curriculum and the Common Core State Standards and will be the standard option for the majority of students. Advanced courses are designed for students who wish to pursue an in-depth study of topics and who exhibit at or above grade-level proficiency and a passion for the subject. Additionally, students will need to possess a rigorous work ethic or a willingness to develop one. *For Advanced Math and English Language Arts classes, recommended score in the 85% or above on the Spring Math or Reading NWEA testing.
Can I change the course requests after my student has already chosen them with the counselor at school?
Changes can be made up until February 28, 2026 in PowerScool through the student account. If any changes are made make sure to hit the submit button in order to save the changes.
