Peer Mentorship "Dragon Buddies" Program

For the 3rd year, I am organizing a Peer Mentorship "Dragon Buddies" Program.  In this program, I pair younger students in one-on-one relationships with older students who serve as positive role models and provide encouragement, support and friendship. The program is designed to assist both mentors and mentees in improving prosocial behavior, increasing school engagement, promoting positive school culture, practicing self-regulation, building confidence and so much more.

If your child is chosen as mentee, they will be spending time 3-4 times a month with their peer mentor during their normal recess time. This time will be spent playing games and doing activities structured around building these skills and guided by the Counselor, as well as practicing these skills in a "real-life" setting through supervised unstructured time.

If your child is chosen as a mentor, they will be spending up to 1 hour a month supporting a younger student during your student’s academic time. I believe that through mentorship they will be learning leadership skills that will aid them both educationally and socially throughout their lives and thereby make-up for the academic time they will be missing. Please call me (Veronica) at 505.994.0229 option 5 if you have any questions or would like your child to be considered for participation.
