Tricky words are words that we can't completely sound out. There are parts of the word that make the usual expected sound. We identify the tricky parts of the word and underline it. In class we also put a heart above that section to remember we have to learn that spelling by heart. I have included the tricky words we have learned on the homework, this is so that you know what words they should be able to read and write, or should be working on knowing them. :)
COPS is what we are using to help edit our writing. Once we write a sentence we can go back and use COPS to help us check our writing to make sure we have all the things we have learned a sentence should have. It also helps us do the best writing we can do!
C=Capitalization. We need a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence and for Names, no matter where it is in a sentence.
O=Organization. Does my sentence make sense? Re read the sentence to make sure our words are in the correct order and that we have all the detail we need to get our idea across to the reader.
P= Punctuation. We need something to close our sentence. We can have a period, exclamation mark or a question mark if we are asking a question.
S= Spelling and Spacing. Are all of my Tricky Words I have learned spelled correctly? Did I try to sound out each word and use the spelling rules I have learned? We are also checking for spaces between our words! *Spacing is a big deal right now in our writing!
