Homework

The only research proven homework is 20 minutes of reading a night. I will put some activities in your student's take home folder to help with reading and the 20 minutes of reading each night. I will have letter fluency pages. These are not to be read completely through each night. Instead, make it a game. Time your student for one minute, and see how far they get. Do the same for the number fluency and the nonsense word fluency pages. By January, your student will also come home with a sight word list. Each list will contain a group of ten sight words. Please take these words and have fun with them! Write them in shaving cream, whipped cream, leaves, whatever you think would work to write these words. We will test them once a week and see if they can move to the next list. The students will keep track of their progress. I will also send home little decodable readers. We use decodables because they are sound patterns we have explicitly taught, and will not rely on student cuing or guessing to read them. If there is a pattern they haven't read before, they will have a rebus picture above the word.
