The state-mandated school closures due to COVID-19 will require that students are away from school for over nine weeks. At this point, parents/families may wonder what they should do to help students academically. The quickest answer is encourage your child to read because reading is so important for all academic areas. Please encourage your child to read any books or other informational materials you have on hand. Below we have complied a list of online resources to provide other learning activities.

I wanted to send out some resources that you can use with your children while they are home with you during our 2 weeks of closure due to the coronavirus. I have provided a few links below.

First, I just want to say that the coronavirus has caused much uncertainty, worry, and anxiety for many of us, especially children who are unable to understand much of what is happening. With that said, my best advice to ease some of the anxiety surrounding school closures due to the coronavirus is to keep your children in a routine as much as possible. If children have a familiar routine to cling to, anxiety can be eased and familiar feelings can be maintained. A sample routine is located in the article below.

In addition, I have attached a link to the Character Tree website. This website teaches students about specific character traits (honesty, kindness, compassion, perseverance, etc.) Each character trait is attached to a historical figure (Martin Luther King Jr., Benjamin Franklin, Jane Goodall, and many more). You will have access to videos, workbooks, comprehension questions, etc. The best part..... it is completely FREE!! Just sign up for a subscription (no credit card needed) and you will have access to all of these materials. These are fun and educational activities to keep your child busy during our closure.

Simply click on the following link and head to the "Sign Up" tab to get started:

Lastly, I have attached some ideas to utilize if/when your child (or you) needs to get their anxious thoughts off their mind.
