Heather Karns

Heather earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education from SUNY Fredonia in 1996. Heather's career in education began in 1996 when she began teaching at a parochial school in Western New York, where she taught 6th grade and then 3rd grade. Heather earned a Masters of Science in Elementary Education with a Reading concentration in 2001 from SUNY Buffalo State. In 2005 her family moved to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where she taught 4th grade at Belmont Elementary School. Throughout the years at Belmont Elementary School, she took on the roles of Technology Facilitator for the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District; school-related committee responsibilities such as School Improvement Team member and chair. In 2017, Heather transitioned into the role of Instructional Coach at Belmont Elementary School to work with teachers to increase their teaching skills and deepen their understanding of the curriculum and standards. Heather served her principal residency at Chaloner Middle School in the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina where she now serves as Assistant Principal.
