In the simplest terms, a TinkerSpace is our Goldwood version of a MakerSpace. It is a space that provides hands-on, creative ways for students to design, experiment, and invent as they engage in science, engineering, and tinkering. Our TinkerSpace is that and MORE! Our TinkerSpace morphs and changes with the curriculum, the season and with the students’ interests.
But…if you ask your kids, they will say that they get to play. They aren’t wrong. It is, however, play with a purpose.
Our TinkerSpace is a place where:
questions are encouraged
curiosity is sparked
challenges are accepted
mistakes inspire creativity
there are no wrong answers
problem solving is nurtured
differences are accepted
students and curriculum guide the journey
the grown-up isn’t always the expert
we say, “Let’s find out!”
“Tinker’s Bill of Rights”
In our TinkerSpace:
we make messes (and clean them up)
we make mistakes (because we learn from them)
we take stuff apart (and put it back together)
we ask questions (to help us figure things out)
we read (to find out why and for fun)
we write (to express our ideas)
we explore (to find new passions)
we create (because it’s beautiful)
