Our learning begins at 9:05, but students may enter the classroom at 8:55. First grade goes to recess and lunch at 12:05-12:50 daily. Our school day ends at 3:20.
Most students at Goldwood take the bus to and from school. Occasionally, parents may need to pick up their children early or at the end of our school day. If there is a change in your child's normal transportation, it is important for your child to know before coming to school if he/she will be taking the bus home or will be picked up by a parent or a friend. Please always write a note or send an email if your child will not be taking the bus home.
You may want to let me know via email about the change in transportation. Please consider I am teaching most of the day and may not be able to check my email until lunch or at the end of the day and might not find out about the change in time for dismissal. I STRONGLY urge you to also contact the office if your child’s transportation will change from the beginning of the day to the end of the day. Please call the office and/or email. Phone # is 440-356-6720. Email to the office: Susie Hill at hill.susan@rrcs.org

Here is a link to our supply list. Please do not send additional supplies because our desks are not big enough and we are working on organizing a desk for the first time! You may want to get some extra pencils, erasers, dry erase markers, and crayons to keep at home until needed at school, as these items receive the most wear throughout the school year.
Children will eat a daily morning snack. Please make sure a healthy snack is sent to school daily. Establish a routine with your child as to where the snack is: lunchbox or backpack. Some suggestions: vegetables, fruit, yogurt, applesauce, raisins, pretzels, cheese and crackers. Please send snacks that your child can open on their own. Snacks must be peanut-free. (Peanut products are allowed at lunchtime.) Please do not send chips or dessert foods.
There is no hot lunch service at Goldwood, which means your child must bring his/her lunch every day. Peanut products are allowed at lunchtime. Milk and juice is available for purchase (paid online).
Your child is welcome to celebrate his/her birthday at school. We will enjoy singing “Happy Birthday” to your child. No food treats are allowed at school. If your child wants to bring a “prize” for the class, please send in a non-food item. Some suggestions are: a pencil, toy car, Play-dough, sidewalk chalk, sticker... (Sending in something to celebrate your child’s birthday is optional.) Students should not pass out party invitations at school unless the entire class or all boys/girls are invited.
Parent/teacher conferences are held in November. Additional conferences may be scheduled by contacting me. Report cards are sent home electronically each quarter through your child’s Progress Book account.
I welcome parent volunteers to help in our classroom. A monthly volunteer calendar will be sent home to regular volunteers, who sign up at the beginning of the school year. This will begin after the first few weeks of school, to let the children settle into the routine of school. Keep an eye out for special events to help with, too. Sign ups to be our room parent and for the Halloween and Valentine's Day parties will be sent out by the PTA. Field trip chaperones will be scheduled once the first grade has confirmed our field trips for the school year.
