Ceramics

Course overview

This course can be selected for elective credit as part of the five-unit art sequence. Students who are not pursuing the sequence may also take the course if they are a junior or senior. In ceramics, students are introduced to the basic methods of preparing and forming clay to develop an understanding of clay as a sculptural and functional three-dimensional medium. The course focuses on the fundamentals of pinch, coil and slab methods, an introduction to the potter’s wheel, as well as finishing techniques including underglaze and glaze.
