Over the next few years, we are working toward developing a competency-based learning environment. This shift reflects our commitment to creating a learning community that values growth, mastery, and meaningful learning over simply earning a grade. Our goal is to ensure that every student understands what they are learning, why it matters, and how to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in authentic ways. Learn more below!
Community Support & Personal Relationships: Every student benefits from being known well by at least one trusted adult. Strong, supportive relationships are the foundation of learning at Revere High School. Each student is connected to an advisor or educator who understands their interests, strengths, goals, lived experiences, and aspirations. Our school community is intentionally designed to foster belonging, mutual respect, and shared responsibility. These relationships support students in taking academic risks, persisting through challenges, and growing as learners and as people.
Learner Profiles & Student Identity: Learning is most powerful when it connects to who students are and who they are becoming. All students develop evolving learner profiles that reflect their strengths, needs, interests, motivations, and goals. Through reflection and coaching, students build self-awareness and agency, learning how their identities, experiences, and aspirations shape their learning. Learner profiles inform instructional decisions, goal setting, and personalized planning across all four years.
Student Success Coaching & Ownership: High expectations paired with meaningful support help students grow toward independence. All students are supported in developing the skills needed to manage their learning, advocate for themselves, and persist through challenges. Through regular goal-setting, reflection, and feedback, students learn to monitor their progress and take increasing ownership over their learning. Educators provide clear expectations and responsive supports, gradually releasing responsibility to students over time.
Competency-Based Progression: What matters most is what students know and can do. Revere High School uses a competency-based approach that ensures students progress by demonstrating mastery of clearly defined Core Competencies aligned to graduation requirements and the Vision of the Graduate. Students receive clear, transferable learning objectives and timely, actionable feedback. Progress is measured over time using multiple sources of evidence, and a tiered system of academic and social-emotional supports ensures all students can work toward mastery at high levels.
Flexible & Relevant Learning Pathways: Learning can happen in different ways, at different times, and in different settings. All students have access to varied, high-quality learning experiences that reflect their interests, strengths, and goals. While some students may access additional flexibility to meet individual needs, flexibility is a core design principle that supports relevance, engagement, and equity for all learners. Educators collaborate with students and caregivers to ensure pathways remain rigorous, coherent, and purposeful.
Post-Secondary Planning & Purpose: Planning for life after high school gives learning meaning. All students engage in ongoing post-secondary exploration and planning that connects present learning to future goals, including college, career training, military service, and workforce pathways. This work builds motivation, direction, and transferable skills such as goal setting, decision making, and adaptability, ensuring students graduate prepared to thrive in meaningful post-secondary experiences.
To complement the course offerings at RHS, we are introducing a more personalized learning experience for students interested in pursuing a specific area of study—what we’re calling a “Career Concentration Path.” Students may choose from a variety of available options or design their own unique pathway based on their interests. This opportunity allows students to explore and deepen their understanding of a potential career field, helping them make informed decisions about future learning and postsecondary goals. Career concentrations include:
Robotics & Engineering (launched in the fall of 2025)
Business & Hospitality (launching in the fall of 2026)

The Revere High School Internship Program provides opportunities for eligible students to learn and develop on-the-job skills related to their intended careers. Students enter a partnership with a business and/or organization for an on-site, educational experience related to their career interest. Students will be scheduled for the equivalent of one or more 80 minute periods per day, five days a week for a semester and earn RHS College Prep credit. Students will work with External Learning Coordinators to create an internship to meet career goals. Complete the application HERE if you would like to apply for an internship next year. Dual Enrollment Courses at Revere High School provide opportunities for RHS students to take college-level courses for free or at a discounted price and earn credit towards high school completion and their future college degrees. Taking these courses eases the transition from high school to college, allows students to get a head start on their college careers, and provides meaningful and challenging academic experiences to qualified students who otherwise may not have access to an early college experience. Revere High School currently partners with the following colleges to provide students with access to Dual Enrollment Courses: Salem State University, Bunker Hill Community College, North Shore Community College, Suffolk University, Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology and Syracuse University. Students may begin taking Dual Enrollment courses after completing 9th Grade.
Students must meet all RHS and college requirements to participate in the program.
Complete the application HERE for Dual Enrollment and someone will follow up regarding the DE college application process, assessment testing and course selection once approved by your Assistant Principal and Guidance Counselor.

Early College Courses at Revere High School allow students enrolled in the Early College program to engage in courses intentionally designed to empower students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Our program works to blend elements of high school and college to provide students with the opportunity to experience and complete college level academic coursework on a clearly articulated pathway and simultaneously gain exposure to a variety of career opportunities. Early college programs also reduce the time and expense of earning a college credential while increasing the likelihood of completion. The Early College Program at RHS is aligned to the Career Concentrations our school will offer in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science, Education and Liberal Arts Transfer. Students may begin the early college program as 10th Graders. Learn more through our RHS Early College Website here.
Gateway to College at North Shore Community College empowers youth in communities north of Boston who have dropped out of high school or are not on track to graduate with an opportunity to reclaim their education by enrolling in a college program that allows them to at the same time earn a high school diploma and free college credits that can be applied towards a degree or certificate at NSCC or transfer to a four-year institution.
RHS Capstone Course is a culminating, interdisciplinary academic experience designed to help students synthesize and apply the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout high school. Through an inquiry-based project, students identify a topic, problem, or area of personal interest and pursue an in-depth exploration that connects to their academic, career, or community goals.
Students engage in research, critical thinking, communication, and reflection as they design, implement, and present a final project or product. The course emphasizes self-direction, project management, and authentic learning experiences that prepare students for postsecondary education, the workforce, or civic engagement. Students may choose the type of credit (ELA, Math, elective) based on their topic or graduation requirements.
By the end of the course, students will produce a comprehensive Capstone Portfolio and deliver a formal presentation to an authentic audience that demonstrates their learning journey, problem-solving process, and personal growth.
RHS is thrilled to partner with the Institute for Global Learning to connect our students, faculty and learning community with other schools around the world. This partnership celebrates the rich diversity of the Revere community by giving students opportunities to explore their learning through a global lens in direct connection to their own experiences. Over the coming years, we will co-create global education programming with our students and teachers, ensuring it reflects the unique spirit of RHS. Students will have the chance to participate in global exchanges with peers and educators worldwide, as well as “glocal” experiences—local projects approached through a global perspective—that strengthen connections within our vibrant Revere community. Through these experiences, we aim to foster curiosity, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the world beyond our classroom walls.
Revere High School’s Bridge for Resilient Youth in Transition (BRYT) intervention provides coordinated, short-term clinical, social-emotional and academic support for students whose learning has been interrupted due to significant mental health treatment, hospitalization, extended absence, or life circumstances. Working with the Student Support Team, the BRYT Program Coordinator provides clinical and academic support to students returning to or transitioning into Revere High School after an experience that has had significant impact in addition to resulting in loss of school time. BRYT offers students the following personalized supports to transition back to school successfully:
Direct clinical supports to students: intentional/planned clinical supports (customized to each student), on-demand supports; crisis intervention where needed
Academic coordination: direct academic support along with communication with a student’s teachers to modify assignments as needed for the student to demonstrate sufficient mastery to accrue credits.
Family engagement: consistent, culturally-appropriate two-way communication with parents/guardians about student progress needs; provision of support, learning, and leadership opportunities for family members.
Care coordination: consultation/collaboration with all in-school supports and collateral providers (available to each student to maximize their success).
Coast Collaborative is a program at Revere High School that has been strongly established for over 10 years. This program was created to meet the needs of a population of students whose unique circumstances have affected their success within the traditional school setting. Coast follows a school within a school model which utilizes alternative pathways to help students reach a successful future. Our mission is to support the whole student including but not limited to the students’ academic, mental health, social/emotional, medical, and family needs.
