Jacki has 17+ years of experience in Language Acquisition. She has worked with students acquiring English for the majority of that time. Her time was spent in Title 1 classrooms from Pre-K to adults in Spanish and ESL classrooms. She taught in an ELD/ESL/ML setting in 6-12 in the US, and in public, private, and non-profit schools in Mexico. Jacki has worked with a variety of ELD/CLDE/ML models but thrived in co-taught/pull-out/push-in environments. She loves collaborating, co-planning, and supporting teachers who have multilinguals from various walks of life during PLCs and Professional Learning opportunities.
Jacki was nominated for Teacher of the Year during the 2019-2020 school year due to her work with families, implementing the frameworks for the Seal of Biliteracy, and focus on multilinguals with learning disabilities and the growing group of MLs with dyslexia or dysgraphia.
She spent time working and collaborating with Instructional Coaches, International Baccalaureate Coordinators, district leadership, and district departments. During the collaborative process, she has helped in implementing programs to support Adult/Family Literacy, instructional best practices for multilinguals, training for teachers/administrators on receiving refugees or unaccompanied students, and students with interrupted education.
