Trip to 'Solas Eco Garden Centre'
On Monday 16th October TY students visited 'Solas Eco Garden Centre' in Portarlington, Co Laois. This is Ireland's only Eco Garden Centre, an award-winning eco hub of sustainability, with a garden centre, café and restaurant, shop and refill station. It organises many events throughout the year, and also has an education programme on many aspects of sustainability for secondary school students. Our students learned all about the causes and impact of climate change, and food waste in a classroom setting. They then had lots of hands-on activities learning about biodiversity, 'grow your own' where they planted lettuce to bring home, and they discussed practical tips to chat about at home on how to cut down on food waste. A delicious lunch was also provided. The students had an informative and enjoyable day!

This week a number of students at RSC took part in 'Global Goals Week'. Organised by Green Schools/Eco Schools. Students from all around the world participated in these daily workshops and learned about the Sustainable Development Goals from each other, and what actions need to be taken by us all to help reduce poverty, reduce inequalities and reduce Climate Change. Our students discussed the issues raised, and how they would make little changes in their lives, which could make a big difference.
