Procedures: Be prepared for class. Always have the following materials in your book bag not in your locker. (3 ring 1” notebook with paper and dividers, laptop, pencil, colored pencils and highlighters on a daily basis).

For assistance, questions or comments raise a quiet, patient hand. Do not speak out when an adult or one of your peers has the floor.

Remember to always make the right choices.

Animals: The students will be feeding and caring for the various animals throughout the year. This is not only fun for them, but it is also a valuable lesson in responsibility. The feeding jobs will be for fun, but the students will also have a cage cleaning during the year. Each student will help clean the guinea pig and sugar glider cages before school from 7:30-7:50 for a homework grade. If the student remembers and completes the cleaning without reminders then he or she will receive a 100. If they do not remember on their own, then the student will still be asked to complete the cleaning, but they will receive a 60. The cage cleaning list will be posted on the website after students sign up. The cage cleaning grade will not be posted on Powerschool until the sixth six weeks of school. The animals in the classroom travel to students’ homes over the holidays and summer vacation. This is completely voluntary and parent permission is mandatory. If you would like to make any food or bedding donations please let me know.

Open Door Policy: If you have any issues, concerns or questions please let me know. We can’t fix a problem if we don’t know there is one. My door is always open or you can call or email me. I look forward to meeting and working with everyone throughout this school year.

Homework, classwork, and make-up work

Homework: Students will receive homework assignments about once a week in addition to studying for tests and quizzes. Homework assignments will be written on the left hand side of the board and posted on the Canvas calendar. Most homework assignments will be project based to reinforce concepts in class. Once every six weeks the students will receive an assignment to bring in an item for a classroom activity. These particular assignments will not be accepted late because we will be using the required item in class. The students will receive a 100 or a 0 on these assignments. All other assignments will be accepted late for up to three days.

Classwork: Incomplete work will not be accepted for a full grade. Students are expected to complete all assignments given and to strive to understand those assignments. If a student is having difficulties on a particular assignment, they are encouraged to ask for help after trying for themselves. Failure to complete an assignment may result in the student having to stay after school to complete the assignment. Failure to complete assignments will be reflected through the student’s grade. Late work will have 10 points deducted per day. Late work will not be accepted after the third day.

Absences/Make-up Work: If you had a family / health emergency, please have your parent write a note and you must complete the homework within 3 school days to receive full credit.

Missing Assignments: Late work will have 10 points deducted per day and after three days assignments will not be accepted.

Tutoring

During after school tutoring the students will work on organizing notebooks, creating flash cards for upcoming quizzes, preparing for tests, reworking class work reviews for extra points, make up missing work or work not completed in class. After school tutoring for Science is on Wednesdays from 3:00 until 3:30 and it is voluntary.

Canvas

Assignments, files, presentations and video links are posted to Canvas on a regular basis. Please use this tool to access lesson materials when you are absent or if you did not complete assignments in class.
