Reading Counts

RCS participates in an online program created by Scholastic that is called Reading Counts. Students are required to read books and take online comprehension tests on their Chromebooks at school. Students will be given a point goal for each six weeks. Reaching this point goal will be recorded as a TEST grade for the six weeks.

Please, note that sixth graders need to read books no lower than a fourth grade level to receive credit.

Students may also test on books that they have read for their reading logs if the book has an RC test. Mrs. Stultz will take students to the RCS library each Friday to check out an RC book. However, we are still in the process of growing our collection, and students may need to go to the public library or read books that they own.

Grammar: Students will study the Eight Parts of Speech using a variety of resources. All students will be grouped to construct a project using the eight parts of speech at the end of the unit. They will study communicating effectively when writing and speaking.

Vocabulary: Students will begin vocabulary lessons once the department makes a decision on the specific program.

Absences and Make-Up Work:

All students have 3 days to make up work when absent.

Missing work will be reflected as a zero in the gradebook.

Canvas

Assignments, files, presentations and video links are posted to Canvas on a regular basis. Please use this tool to access lesson materials when you are absent or if you did not complete assignments in class.

Tutoring

Parents will be notified in advance if your child is in need of tutoring and a tutorial letter will be sent home. Please sign and return before your child attends. ELA tutoring will be held on Mondays beginning with the second six weeks. Tutoring will run from 2:50-3:20.

Please encourage your child to come to me if they have any questions or concerns.
