The School Site Council is a decision-making body made up of the principal, teachers, staff, students, & parents. The Council is primarily responsible for reviewing the Nogales High School Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The Council recommends expenditures in relation to strategies focused on supporting the completion of educational goals within the plan.
The Council meets once a month to discuss/review compliance items or the SPSA. To be a member of the SSC, one must run for election as either:
A classroom teacher
4 seats
A certificated staff member (or non-classroom teacher)
1 seat
A student
3 seats
A parent or community member
3 seats
Terms last 2 years and elections for vacant seats typically occur from August-November. Those interested in running for office must provide contact information, a biography for the ballot, and be available to attend meetings on a regular basis.
Not being a member doesn't mean you can't be involved. Members of the public are able to be involved in the following ways:
Public Comment
Every SSC meeting, by law, is required to permit the public to comment on council business for 3 minutes (unless extended by the Council). Simply attend a meeting and raise your hand when public comment is solicited.
Committee Assignment
Members of the public are welcome to attend committee meetings where in-depth discussion takes place on specific workshop items such as word-smithing strategies. At the discretion of the committee chair, members of the public can participate as much as they'd like during these meetings.
