It takes courage to reach out for help. It’s natural to have questions when you begin treatment, and you may not even know those questions. Here are some common questions that many people have when they start therapy.
What is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor?
A Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC or LPC) is a professional who has been qualified to provide psychotherapy and other counseling services. LCPCs are trained to work with individuals, families, and groups to treat mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders. LCPC is a master level therapist .
What services do I offer?
I provide compassion-focused, strength-based individual counseling to adults. I see teens on a case-by-base basis. This service is delivered from my office by a HIPPA compliant, video conferencing platform that is accessed via the client portal. I have experiencing working with clients who have PTSD/CPTSD, depression, anxiety, and survivors of childhood trauma. I have a passion for working with LGBTQIA2 populations. The focus of my work is helping people find hope, meaning, and healing in their lives.
How does confidentiality work in counseling?
Confidentiality in counseling creates a space where the client can explore sensitive subjects in the knowledge that the counselor will not repeat or misuse the information discussed outside the counseling space. Maintaining confidentiality within certain limitations is an ethical responsibility for the counselor and is part of what makes counseling different from other relationships. Please review the consent to treatment form in the client portal that outlines the limits of confidentiality. Your provider will discuss these with you during your intake session.
Do you take my Insurance ?
I do accept some major insurances. I can also provide a superbill to submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits or cash pay clients. Please review the fee information page about the cost of services.
What can I expect during my first session ?
The first therapy session can be a source of anxiety for some people. If you are nervous about your first therapy session, that’s normal. Remember that the first session's goal is for the therapist to get to know you. Your provider will ask questions about your life, background, and what brought you to therapy. Before the first session, please complete the intake paperwork on our client portal.
The other important goal of the first session is to see if you feel comfortable with the therapist. “Interviewing” the therapist about their approach, what issues they are most experienced addressing, and anything relevant to your reason for seeking therapy is a helpful way of finding a good fit.
You and the therapist will discuss your goals regarding what you want to get out of therapy. This will help to focus your sessions and give you perspective on how you want to grow. Depending on circumstances, these goals may need to change over time, so it’s good practice to keep checking in about them as the therapeutic relationship continues.
How do I schedule appointments?
