Activity 1: Making Sense of Empathy Interviews


WHAT will we have when this activity is complete? We will have a list of important insights from our empathy interviews.

WHY is this activity important? The insights from empathy interviews will tell us what users need and guide us in creating a solution.

HOW do I do this activity while keeping the habits in mind? We will focus on empathy - really listening to what users say they need instead of imposing our own needs on them.

Activity 2: Identifying Key Themes from Interviews

WHAT will we have when this activity is complete? We will have identified 1-3 themes that we must address with our prototype.

WHY is this activity important? The themes will help us stay focused in what we create and will help us communicate our “why” to our community.

HOW do I do this activity while keeping the habits in mind? We will focus on empathy to keep our users’ needs in mind.

Activity 3: Root Cause Analysis

WHAT will we have when this activity is complete? We will have identified the root causes, challenges and assets that led to the key themes identified as resonating for your community.

WHY is this activity important? Our prototype should address the root causes, otherwise we risk putting a “band-aid” on the issue.

HOW do I do this activity while keeping the habits in mind? We will focus on empathy by creating space for all in our coalition to participate. We will pay special attention to the voices and thoughts particularly of those who are not quick to respond to questions or may feel uncomfortable with the educational jargon or processes.

Activity 4: Defining the Challenge

WHAT will we have when this activity is complete? We will have identified a key challenge or problem statement specific to your community.

WHY is this activity important? With our selected theme, we will use the problem statement help us identify potential ideas for prototyping.

HOW do I do this activity while keeping the habits in mind? We will focus on empathy and co-creation by creating space for all in our coalition to participate. We will be sure to pay attention to the voices and thoughts particularly of those who are not quick to respond to questions or may feel uncomfortable with the educational jargon or processes.
