Standalone Mode - Using the Buttons

In Standalone Mode, you can program Roversa using its onboard buttons - no computer or additional device needed! Roversa uses onboard sensors to help it move more accurately. There are three types of calibration to know about:

• Initial calibration (every time you turn on Roversa)
  Each time you turn Roversa on, you should see FLOOR + PLAY scroll across the micro:bit LED display. Place Roversa on the surface where it will run before pressing the green Play button. This allows Roversa’s sensors to establish an accurate starting position and orientation. 

• Compass calibration (one-time setup)
  The first time you turn on Roversa, the micro:bit will guide you through the compass calibration process. Follow the instructions on the micro:bit. When the compass calibration is complete, place Roversa on a flat surface before beginning.

• Calibration wizard (as needed)
  If Roversa is not moving as expected, you can go through the Calibration Wizard. 

Once Roversa is ready, use the four directional buttons in any order to create a program. Each button press adds a command to your program in the order you enter it.

• Directional buttons: Add forward, backward, left, or right commands to your program.

• Green Play button: Run your program.

• Grey Menu button: Preview your program on the micro LED display.

• Red Stop button: Clear your program at any time.

After Roversa finishes running a program, it automatically clears the code so you are ready to create a new one.

MakeCode Mode

You can use the micro:bit for MakeCode extension to introduce students to more advanced computer science concepts like loops, conditions and variables, as they reprogram the buttons on Roversa.
