Every Roversa moves a little differently. Movement tuning, also called calibration, helps Roversa drive straighter and turn more accurately.
Calibration improves consistency, but Roversa is a hands-on robot operating in the physical world. Movement may still vary slightly depending on the surface of the floor, battery level, and how the robot was assembled. Testing and refining movement is part of robotics and engineering.
Each time you turn Roversa on, place it on the floor before pressing the green Play button. This allows Roversa’s sensors to establish an accurate starting position and orientation.
When Roversa starts, you should see FLOOR + PLAY scroll across the micro:bit LED display. If you do not see this message, Roversa needs the latest Standalone mode firmware loaded. Roversa uses this built-in firmware to activate button presses and control basic robot functions, and it is updated periodically to improve functionality and performance.
Once Roversa is ready, use the four directional buttons in any order to create a program. Each time you press a direction button, Roversa remembers that direction as part of your program.
Press the green Play button to run your program.
Press the grey Menu button to preview your program. The directional arrows will appear on the micro:bit LED display.
Press the red Stop button at any time to clear your program.
After Roversa finishes running a program, it automatically clears the code so you are ready to create a new one.
Roversa uses onboard sensors to help it move more accurately. The first time you turn on Roversa, the micro:bit will guide you through the compass calibration process. Follow the instructions on the micro:bit. When the compass calibration is complete, place Roversa on a flat surface before beginning.
Create a sequence that uses all the directional buttons and press the green Play button.
If Roversa's movement looks good, you are ready to code with Roversa
