Mobile Phones
Mobile Phones
DofE groups are required to have a mobile phone policy that participants must follow. Failure to follow this policy will lead to removal from the expedition.
Mobile phones may be taken by the team for emergency use only. One phone per team must be carried and this should be agreed by the team in advance. This phone must be switched off, kept in a sealed bag provided by the leader/assessor and packed into a rucksack where it can be quickly accessed in an emergency. This phone should have credit/allowance and a full battery.
All other phones can be given to leaders who will store these until the end of the expedition. This is at the student's own risk as we are not insured for mobile devices.
Groups will be trained in emergency procedures, including when to raise help form emergency services and when to call leaders. Use other than in these designated circumstances will lead to the expedition not being passed.
At times, such as when a family member is unwell, we can agree in advance (at Silver) for a call home using a school mobile. Please ensure Mr Desborough and Mrs Wallis are emailed if this may be needed.
Participants should be mindful when choosing how to gather evidence for their Goal that they will not have use of a mobile. Often families have a very old fashioned digital camera that can be used!
Trackers used at Gold have an emergency button. Participants will be trained in their use.
