The Corps recently acquired a set of licenses for flight training software (Prepar3D V4). The use of this technology will further enhance the Cadets' learning about aviation fundamentals. And it's also fun!

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb: Our cadets walked up the stairs in honor of the first responders who climbed the stairs of the World Trade Center on 9/11.
TX-861 AFJROTC had the honor of leading the Westwood High School annual Homecoming parade.

TX-861 had the opportunity to visit the 2024 Wings Over Houston Airshow during a Curriculum in Action (CIA) trip and enjoy the fantastic demonstrations of the USN Blue Angels, USAF F-16 Viper, C-17 Globemaster III, USAF KC-46A Pegasus, F-100 Super Sabre, B-25 Mitchell "Doolittle Raiders", TBM-3E Avenger, T-6 Texan and more! Impressive!

TX-861 cadets volunteered alongside a number of other organizations over the Thanksgiving holiday to place a wreath at every headstone, marker and at the Columbarium of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. The event was hosted by "Wreaths for Vets" whose mission is to ensure that our Veterans are never forgotten. Thank you to our Cadet Corps for making this a special event for the many families whose loved ones are interred at the Veterans Cemetery.

The AFJROTC program is committed to our Cadets and their growth as leaders. Here, a class works together through a leadership and communication exercise.
During the 8th Grade Open House, our Cadets volunteered to guide parents and students around the school campus. Meanwhile, our dedicated Recruitment Team did an excellent job with showing their talents and hard work - from demonstrating their different teams' excellence, to telling our parents about the many opportunities cadets have within the Corps.
TX-861 participates in "Adopt a Highway." Here you can see volunteers from the Corps participating in highway cleanup - and enjoying a little post-cleanup lunch.
In February, TX-861st and Hutto High School AFJROTC Cadet Corps spearheaded a commemorative hike in memory of the Bataan Death March. The cadets did a phenomenal job hiking the entire 14 miles in under 5 hours while cleaning up the trail.
The TX-861st Cadet Corps partnered with Hutto High School's TX-20131 to host the annual Military Ball at Westwood High School. The event was outstanding and included dinner, dancing, and crowning of royalty! We took the opportunity to wish our Senior Class of 2025 a great future as they get closer to their transition to life after high school. Huge thank you to our Booster Clubs [Westwood & Hutto AFJROTC boosters], along with the tremendous support from our parent & cadet volunteers in the set up and break-down of the event as well.
On June 6, 2024, TX-861st AFJROTC sent cadets to attend the Cadet Leadership Course (CLC) and Cadet Staff Leadership Course (CSLC) held in Abilene, Texas. There were over 600 cadets from Texas, New Mexico and Missouri in attendance. Well done to our cadets as they not only completed the program, but they excelled!
