Valerie Laugier M.E.d., Ph.D

Valerie Laugier is a new counselor addition at ECHS this year. It is her 5th year as a counselor and her 20th year as a Texas educator. She was a counselor at Taylor High School for the past 4 years, a French and English teacher at Stony Point in RRISD for 8 years before that, and a lecturer in foreign languages at UT Austin for 8 years. She received her Master's in School Counseling from Lamar University in 2015 and her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UT Austin in 1996. She received her B.A. in translation studies and M.A. in English from Nice University in Southern France where she was born and grew up.


Most of Valerie's family still resides in France except for her two sons Adrien (26) and Austen (23), both UT graduates, who currently work for tech companies in Austin, Texas. Her personal interests include regular physical activity as well as yoga and meditation, learning languages (she can definitely assist Spanish-speaking families), reading and traveling.


As a counselor, Valerie is passionate about helping students find a body/mind balance in their approach to wellbeing and behavioral health. She also believes compassion and kindness are the gifts a counselor can share with each generation of students to create a more tolerant world. She is also eager to help students discover their own intellectual and/or professional passions and start articulating the future of their dreams.

Your Counseling Team 

Helen Holmes, M.S.E.


Helen Holmes has served ECHS since December of 2018. Ms. Holmes is a graduate of Texas Tech University & University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and has been a licensed school counselor since 2010. Her Master's work includes School Counseling & Higher Education emphases. 

Mrs. Holmes grew up in Ft. Worth and taught English for ten years in Texas before relocating with her family to Appleton, Wisconsin. There she co-ran a project-based school for nine years. Mrs. Holmes is a huge proponent of project-based learning and has trained educators from around the Midwest and in the Netherlands on Personalized Learning Plans and student-driven learning. She is passionate about adolescent mental health and supporting students through the challenges and opportunites of a collegiate high school like ECHS. 

Mrs. Holmes has two children, Caroline (23), who attends Carnegie Mellon University & William (19), who graduated from ECHS and is a student at Tarleton State. Her husband, Mark, is the Manager of Spiritual Services for Dell Children's Medical Center.
