Pedraza Chemistry
Welcome to CRHS Chemistry and Mrs. Pedraza's class!
Hello! My name is Heather Pedraza and this is my family.
I have one daughter in high school here in RRISD and another in college at UT Arlington. My husband is an AP at Laurel Mountain elementary school. This is my 24th year of teaching high school science. I received a BS in chemistry with a minor in physics from The University of Texas at Austin in 1999. I finished my Master's in Educational Technology at Texas State University in 2016. I have two cats and two dogs. I love reading, knitting, and crocheting but also enjoy camping and playing games (video and tabletop) with my friends and family. I host the knitting and crochet club here at Cedar Ridge High School and my current favorite author is Brandon Sanderson.
What to expect:
There is a big step up from biology and your freshman year to chemistry and your sophomore year. Many students find it challenging at first but most get the hang of it quickly and end up really enjoying the class. You may need to reach out for help more than you are used to but that is OK!
In chemistry, we will be investigating matter and energy to learn more about the universe we live in and how we interact with it. There will be reading involved (mainly of instructions for labs and such) and there will be math but there will also be a lot of hands-on activities and investigations. Though we will be using Schoology for many of the assignments, the Schoology grade is NOT your chemistry grade. Aside from Schoology, we will also be using REMIND. It is important that students sign up for their class Remind so that they get important information and so that they can ask me quick questions or reach out in urgent situations as I do not check email outside of school hours.
