Pedraza Astronomy

Welcome to CRHS Astronomy and Mrs. Pedraza's class!

Hello! My name is Heather Pedraza and this is my family.

I have one daughter in high school here in RRISD and another in college at UT Arlington. My husband is an AP at Laurel Mountain elementary school. This year is my 24th year of teaching high school science (chemistry and physics mostly). I received a BS in chemistry with a minor in physics from The University of Texas at Austin in 1999. I finish my Masters in Educational Technology at Texas State University in 2016. I have one cat and two dogs. I love reading, knitting and crochet but I also enjoy camping and playing games (video and table top). My current favorite author is Brandon Sanderson.

What to expect:

This class is designed to help students prepare for college and post-secondary education though the vehicle of astronomy. Many of the skills taught will also be useful in the workforce as technology literacy is a necessary part of almost any job!

1. It is a modified flipped class.

2. Students are expected to do research and take notes.

3. There is some math involved.

4. There is an ePortfolio that students have to make and update throughout the year using google sites.

5. Students will have individual assignments but will also be expected to work collaboratively in groups on a very regular basis.

6. It is important that students are organized and can work both at their own pace on some assignments and under a deadline for others.

Keys to Success:

Cornell Notes:

"Help will always be given at Cedar Ridge High School to those who ask for it."
