"Middle school band has been such a positive experience for my child! Neither my husband or I play an instrument so we really didn't know what to expect. There is support, for the parents and students, every step of the way and it truly is amazing to see how quickly the kids go from picking up an instrument for the first time to being a part of a full band playing in a concert.
The teamwork aspect of band is one of the things I really appreciate. So much of middle school electives is trying out new things so kids can find out what works for them and finding friends with similar interests. Looking at all the electives my 3 children have chosen and enjoyed over the years, I would have to say that band is the best at preparing kids for high school, both academically and socially."

"Being in Band has taught my son 3 important things - working with a team, precise calculation of the notes to continuously improve himself and time management. In Band, there is no doubt that every single person has to play their piece well to create the final masterpiece. My son totally understands and works individually as well as with others to achieve this. When under stress, he plays his instrument (Trombone) to calm himself down. While randomly playing the instrument, his creative aspect is triggered and he has created some beautiful tunes. I can see him enjoying this instrument to the core.
As far as the academic impact is concerned, I don't think one will see a direct impact in Academics due to Band. But indirectly it has many positive impacts. As I mentioned earlier, it triggers the creative aspect of the child. Music involves the child to use both sides of their brain and it is amazing to see how precisely all these kids play their notes. Also, I have seen kids in Band managing their times better so that they can continue to stay in Band :) All these kids feel part of a family away from home and they are friends for life. I think it is important to have such bond outside of home that is very positive on your child.
When my son moved from Cedar Valley MS (which has one of the best band in MS), we were not happy. But we were sweetly surprised when we attended the Fall Band concert. Not just the honors band, but also the Beginners band played soooo well. Kudos to the teachers and the students for their hardworking. My son is also very happy to be part of this legacy being slowly built at Pearson Ranch MS. I can see his leadership skills getting groomed while he is helping the 6th grade Trombone players get better with their instruments. Thanks a lot for providing him such great opportunities to grow as a complete person. All these are life skills and I’m fortunate to have my son in this program. Most importantly, I enjoy watching him enjoy something that is very productive in his life"
