Our Focus This Week

Math

We will be applying our skills to analyze and solve story problems. We will also practice representing equations using strip diagram models.

Literacy

In writing, we are focusing on grammar this week. We have been working on end punctuation and capitalization, especially with dialogue. I also will send home a special assignment where students investigate the origin of their name. They will be interviewing you about the meaning and choice of their name and then practice their writing skills to report on their interview. I can't wait to hear their stories!

In phonics, we will explore the spelling patterns for the short and long "u" sound, as well as open and closed syllables.

Reading will focus on the features of nonfiction text and how they help the reader find information.

Science

This week in science we are learning about how weathering, erosion, and deposition shape and change landforms. We will explore how these processes work, and how they

Social Studies

We learned all about the Native Americans who lived in Texas through our student presentations last week. Now we will move down the timeline to see what happens next in Texas history. Since Columbus discovered the new world, explorers from France and Spain will venture to what is now Texas to stake a claim for their country, and look around for some gold while they are at it.
