Safety Patrol

The role of our LME Safety Patrol is to help keep our students safe as they arrive to school as well as when they are being dismissed. Your child will also show growth in maturity, leadership, commitment, and responsibility as they learn to help serve the community.

For morning duty - students need to be at school at 7:10am. They are on duty until the tardy bell rings. They are always excused from being tardy (ONLY ON THE WEEKS THEY ARE SCHEDULED to work).

For afternoon duty - students report to the gym between 2:50 - 2:55, and are dismissed when the car line has cleared, which usually takes 10-15 minutes, max.

Each day, two students are assigned "flag duty" which means they raise and lower our US and Texas flags. They learn to respectably carry, raise, lower, and fold our flags.

Each safety patrol member is required to check in and out of duty, just like a real job. We have occasional hot chocolate treats on super cold mornings, and popsicles when it's extremely hot!

As clubs or after school activities start, or doctor appointments are occasionally scheduled, we understand the need to make changes to your assigned Safety Patrol days, or to skip working due to a conflict. I would appreciate you letting your student simply come tell me when they will have a conflict and cannot report to duty. (Putting the responsibility on your student will help them learn to communicate with someone outside of their family about important events. I want them to know I value their input in our program as well as their own responsibilities that fall outside of school. We do not accept students "quitting" Safety Patrol because they just no longer want to do it. Signing up is a commitment to help until the next group of students will take over to be trained. This will typically happen around spring break. We NEED all of these responsible students so our program can be successful. However, if SP is not working for your family, please speak with me directly about it. I'm happy to listen.

We appreciate your help and support as your children dedicate this time to service the LME community. Thank you, Mrs. Bretsch and Coach Jerry
