Meet Mr. Studor:
Dear Students:
Welcome! I'm beyond excited that we get to spend the next year together learning and growing. We have so much to look forward to as a class family, and I can't wait to get started with this semester!
I haven't always been a teacher - I actually spent the first couple of years of college studying architecture and working at an firm in Austin! I have always had a deep love for teaching though, and decided to become a elementary school teacher after a few years of college. I also added on a history degree - more about that in the next paragraph!
I adore all the subjects, but you're going to find out that I'm a fanatic about Social Studies and ALL of history - come prepared to share fun facts that you know, as well as hear what others have discovered! As your teacher I promise to each and every one of you I will do my best to always be present and supportive; you are all valuable members of our class family and we ALL have ideas and skills to share.
Dear Parents:
I'm looking forward to meeting with you all and beginning our partnership together! I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this, but it's essential that not only are your children engaged daily, but you all as well. I fully support parent involvement, and communication is key to me - please click the "For Parents" tab at the top of the page for my contact information, ways to get in touch and other resources.
I'm a Texas Tech Red Raider, and moved back to Austin after spending 5 years in Lubbock. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (Early Childhood through 6th Grade) as well as a minor in History - I aim to get a Masters the Education field at the University of Texas in the future as well. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the TTU College of Education to develop curriculum based around the new Science of Teaching Reading when the state implemented the changes statewide, and have been bringing that pedagogy into the classroom. I have hopped around from different grades during my teaching career so far - I have had wonderful years in 5th, 4th, and 3rd grade (this will be my 3rd year in 3rd! Must be a sign for good luck).
I'm a strong believer that learning is a lifelong skill and can always extend past the walls of a classroom. I seek to not only teach the curriculum, but to give students opportunities to become well-rounded individuals; I aspire to teach students to be compassionate, creative problem solvers, and to always thoroughly question and wonder.
Other bits and pieces about Mr. S...
I'm an true Austinite, born and raised! My mom and pops met in Austin 35 years ago, and we have deep roots in the Austin area - they actually live only a short distance from Laurel Mountain Elementary, and can't be happier with where I chose to work (Something about keeping their kids as close to home as possible...). I also have an identical twin named Abraham who lives in Austin as well - he works in the robotic coffee industry at Costa Coffee right by Q2 stadium.
I adore getting to be outdoors - I love to go camping and hiking when I have time (when it's not 105 outside!), as well as a good early-morning slalom ski on Lake Austin with my dad. I'm also a giant soccer fanatic and spend my evenings and weekends (as well as the very early morning on occasion) either playing a pickup game of soccer or watching Borussia Dortmund and Austin FC. Cooking is also a favorite pastime I picked up as I grew up, so if there's ever any recommendations for recipes, please send them along! I try to go to the Mueller Farmer's Market each Sunday - if you see me, come say hello! I try to get a book read every month: at the moment I'm reading a bunch of non fiction books about Texas' history.
