About Me

I love music. I love listening to it, practicing it, performing it, and creating it. Music speaks to me in a way that words alone cannot and I am eager to share my love for music with you!

I am originally from Greencastle, Pennsylvania where I began studying piano, oboe, and voice through private lessons. I participated in choirs at school and church and played in the band at school. Music gave me an opportunity to express myself, fellowship with other musicians, and learn skills that have helped me in many aspects of my life. Music gave me opportunities to learn how to work well with others, learn discipline to practice, and ways to express myself. My experiences in music at school and church prompted me to continue studying vocal and instrumental music at Messiah College. I went to college only wanting to teach elementary music, but when I graduated my first job offer was to teach band and choir at a high school. It was a far cry from what I had expected! I had the opportunity to teach marching band, direct wind ensemble, and build their choir program and it was an incredibly fulfilling year. I grew a lot and maybe even learned more than my students! I enjoyed directing choir and band far more than I had expected, and I was offered a position directing choir and teaching guitar class at another high school. I taught at Turner Ashby High School for 7 years and the choirs received Superior ratings and were invited to perform at the VMEA state conference in 2010. I began studying Choral Conducting with Dr. Jong Kim and received my Masters in Choral Conducting in 2011 from Lynchburg College.

In 2015 and 2 children later, I was ready for a change! I wanted to pursue my desire to teach elementary music and was given the opportunity at Berkley Glenn Elementary in 2015. My awesome husband received a promotion from Flosports, but it required a move from Virginia to Texas. I encouraged him to follow his dream and knew that the right thing would come along for me when it was supposed to. Sooner than I expected, I got a phone call from Mrs. Richards and found out I was going to be part of the Laurel Mountain family! I was thrilled to read and hear such wonderful things about the school and have the opportunity to teach here. This year begins my 6th year as a Laurel Mountain Lion and I can't wait to make music with you!

My husband and I live in Pflugerville with our son and daughter, Ginger and Bobby our dogs, and Kima our cat. I love to crochet, craft, sing at church, exercise and I spend a lot of time playing games and doing puzzles with my kids.
