Beginning in 3rd grade, accelerated math instruction is provided for those who show a need for service. There are multiple pathways for receiving this instruction through gifted services. One in which a student will take Algebra 1 in 7th grade and one in which the student will take Algebra in 8th. Both of these are accelerated in comparison to the regular curriculum. This flowchart shows the multiple options for identified students to take advantage of as they progress through the grade levels.
If a child qualifies for math services, they will come to Mrs. Davis the NEXT year for their math instruction each day for 80 minutes. The only acception is if a transfer student comes in and qualifies, they will start with me immediately.
In 3rd grade they learn all of 3rd grade math and half of 4th grade math. They will take the 3rd grade STAAR.
In 4th grade they will learn half of 4th grade math and all of 5th grade math. They will take the 5th grade STAAR.
In 5th grade they will learn all of 6th grade math and half of 7th grade math. They will take the 6th grade STAAR.
If they qualify for a subject area at the end of their 3rd-5th grade year, they will need iReady and Khan Academy and possibly IXL to help catch them on the skills they missed.
