Daily Schedule-

10 Minutes: Independent Reading

10 Minutes: Bell Ringer/Intro Activity/Mini Lesson

30 Minutes: Small Group/ Independent Practice- Students will be engaged in small group practice with teacher/ other students or working on an activity based on teaching purpose.


Goals

3. Think critically and establish educated opinions about the world around us.


Course Questions:

1. What habits do successful readers and writers’ exhibit?

2. What does it mean to interpret and evaluate texts and support ideas with text evidence?

3. How can mentor texts be used to influence an author’s technique?

4. In a culture where we are bombarded by others trying to define or influence us, how do we make decisions for ourselves?

5. What are the similarities/differences between different genres and types of text?

6. How can we read beyond a basic story to find inferred/implied meaning?

7. What tools or techniques can be used to organize and categorize information collected?

8. How are sound, form, mood, and figurative language used to create meaning?


Technology:

Students will have opportunities to use technology in the classrooms on a regular basis. The use of Chromebooks, laptops, personal devices are for educational purposes only. If a student has misused these resources, their access will be limited or restricted in the classroom. When a personal cell phone becomes a distraction, they will be picked up and returned at a later time.


Everyday Must Haves:

  • A composition book (Writer's Notebook)

  • Pencil

  • Personal reading materials (book, magazines, e-reader)

  • Earbuds/headphones


Grading Policy:

Assessment: 60% Quizzes: 30% Daily: 10%

If a student is absent due to illness or doctor appointment they will have the number of days they were out to complete assignments. Please check website for weekly agenda. Assignments turned in late will receive a deduction of 10 points the first day and 5 points each additional day. Students may be asked to come to tutorials or advisory to complete assignments. Students may complete corrections to replace any failing grades up to a 70 after tutoring has occurred before/after school or advisory.


Tutorials:

Tutorials will be available Mondays - 7:40-8:20 and Thursdays-3:40-4:30. If those days/times do not work, e-mail me and we can figure out an alternative day/time.
