Students in all grades are taught during the first classroom counseling lesson of the year how to self-refer to visit the counselor. Kindergarten and 1st graders are taught to ask their teacher to visit Mrs. Hougham, and students in 2-5 are taught that they can place a note in Mrs. Hougham's mailbox or email her at sara_hougham@roundrockisd.org if they would like to talk. Mrs. Hougham has self-referral note papers outside of her office, but students can always write on any type of paper. Mrs. Hougham checks her mailbox often, but makes sure students know that if there is an emergency situation and they're worried about someone's safety, they need to tell a trusted adult in person immediately.
