August- Introduction to Counseling- In these lessons, students will get to know a little bit about who we are and gain a better understanding of what a school counselor does!
September- Growth Mindset- In this lesson, students will learn the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. We will explore the "power of yet" and how having a growth mindset can help us in school.
October- Problem Solving/Conflict Resolution- In this lesson, the students will learn how to handle conflict appropriately. Some topics that will be addressed in this lesson are: size of conflict, bullying prevention, listening skills, and how to have a respectful conversation when a conflict arises. Lesson content will vary depending on the age group.
November- Gratitude- Students will learn about the concept of gratitude and how we can practice it in our everyday lives.
December- Peace- Students will learn what peace is, why it's important, and how to practice it in their own lives and with others.
January- Friendship/5th Grade- Middle School Readiness- Students will learn what it means to be a good friend to all. Our 5th graders will learn all about middle school and will get prepared for class choice sheets!
February- Kindness & Empathy- Along with Kindness Week (February 9-13), students will learn about both kindness and empathy. The lesson will teach them why these qualities are important and how to show empathy to others.
March- Understanding Differences- Students will explore our individual differences and learn why they are a positive aspect of our community.
April- Career- As a school, we will learn about different career choices that can be made inside and outside of school.
May- Summer Readiness & Self-Reflections- Time to reflect on the year! Students will have a chance to celebrate how the year went. We will also go over summer safety tips.
