Want to know about the best comics for teens? Come hear from librarians and representatives from the Texas Library Association's Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List committee as they give a speed round of booktalks about their favorites from the Maverick lists.
The Texas Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List (TMGNRL) is a recommended reading list designed for adolescents in grades 6-12. The purpose of the list is to encourage readers to explore a variety of current graphic novels for recreational reading, not to support a specific curriculum.

A native Texan, Lindsey Phillips has been a public educator for 15 years. She has taught high school US history, government, and philosophy. Currently, she is a middle school librarian. She fangirls over anything Harry Potter, Marvel, or Star Wars related. When she is not chasing her toddler–she enjoys reading, walking her dog, and binge watching TV shows about vampires. Lauralee Owen has been a high school librarian for 11 years, an elementary librarian for two years, and before that, a high school English teacher for 13 years. She lives in Central Texas, but has traveled the globe and loves to learn about different cultures. She is currently on the Texas Library Association’s Maverick committee, which picks top YA and MG graphic novels, manga, and comics recommendations. She has also served on the TLA’s TAYSHAS committee, which picks top YA reading recommendations. She has 2 basset hounds and 1 cat named Flerken.
