1st graders check out 2 books at a time
3rd-5th check out 3 books at a time (one may be substituted for a Playway if a permission slip is signed by parent)
Is there a fine for overdue books?
There is not a fine for overdue books. Students may not check out additional books until overdue books are returned or renewed.
*Books lost or damaged must be paid for in the library.
What if my child loses or damages a book?
If a book is damaged, please bring it to the library so that I can try to repair it.
If a book is damaged beyond use or is lost, we ask that the student pay the cost to replace the book so that we can purchase that book again for our collection. We will send a note home with the replacement cost listed. Please do not purchase a copy of the book on your own. We go through district-approved library vendors to purchase books that are library-bound and include the barcodes and cataloging necessary for circulation.
What if my child loses or damages their ID card?
Students are issued a new ID card at the beginning of each school year, which is used to check out books and to make purchases in the cafeteria. If a student needs a replacement ID card, there is a $5 replacement cost.
How can we protect library books?
Water is the biggest culprit when it comes to damaged books and water damage can not be repaired.
Students in grades kindergarten through second will be given a heavy duty plastic bag at orientation to keep all school year. We strongly urge parents to remind their children to put their library books in the bag before placing them in their backpack - especially if they carry a water bottle and snacks in their backpack.
Other ways to protect books: Keep library books out of reach of younger children at home; keep
books away from pets - especially puppies; keep books inside away from food, water, dirt and rain.
What is a Playaway?
A Playaway is an audiobook similar to an MP3 player. The entire novel is downloaded and recorded on the Playaway. Only students in
grade 3-5 have permission to check out one Playway at a time.
*A playaway permission form must be signed and returned to the library before a student is allowed to check out Playaways. If a student has an overdue book they may not check out a Playaway until their account is current
