Warm-up (first 5-10 minutes)
During this time, we'll either read (independent reading books or excerpt for class) or have some sort of opening discussion!
This time will be different every day, but will happen every day we can!
Warm-up is a time to settle, get your supplies, regulate, and get yourself ready to learn something.
Mini-lesson/Reading (5-15 minutes)
This part will vary day to day, but everyday we'll come together and talk about a way to get started writing in your notebook.
We might talk about a writing strategy, read a passage, watch a video, discuss at our tables, and much more!
The purpose of the minilesson is to help you get started in your notebook, but not take time away from your writing. We'll keep this as short as possible :-)
Writing Time (majority of class)
The most important time in class! This is the time you'll be working in your writer's notebook. This time will evolve as the year progresses, but you will always have writing time. More on that in class :-)
Debrief (Last 5 minutes of class)
During our debrief, we'll talk about writing time! What worked, what didn't, what you want to try tomorrow, lots of things!
Sometimes this time will be a whole class discussion, and other times it'll be at your tables or with a partner, or even in writing. But no matter what, we'll be reflecting over your writing time.
