We are excellent at what we do! Collectively we have 63 years of experience teaching in public schools, 48 of those were in Kindergarten!
We are well prepared for this job! We all have a college degree in Education from major universities and extra training thereafter.
We are well-trained in the Science of Reading. We have undergone extensive training through our district and on our own for the last 4 years to make sure that we understand the science of how students learn to read. We apply that science in our classrooms in exciting and innovative ways!
Each of us wants to teach Kinder because we love it and this is our passion! We love the joy of teaching children to read and write. We'd argue this is one of the best gifts we can give children and we take it very seriously.
We are committed to learning and growing as educators. We've been doing this for a long time and we are comfortable changing our practices as we learn better ways of doing things.
We love to partner with families. We are intentional about getting our families involved with special Kindergarten events (Teddy Bear Picnic, Mud Day, Parent Readers, Pumpkin Carving with families, Thankful Feast, HoeDown, and Field Trips)
We chose Caraway too! We love Caraway so much that we each brought our own children here even though we do not live in the neighborhood.
Caraway has Enrichment Academies. Caraway Academy is an enrichment opportunity embedded within the school day that takes students on adventures where they are provided learning opportunities for specific, self-selected enrichment. You can learn more here.
We take learning outside. Caraway has many beautiful outdoor learning spaces we take advantage of. Last year we partnered with the University of Texas SproUTing program to maximize and enhance our outdoor learning spaces. We will continue to have integrated lessons with our students using these spaces.
We have 1 extended recess in Kindergarten. Kids get lots of time for social play, running, playing, making friends, and being kids!
We balance the need for learning and social-emotional growth. We begin our day with a community circle and end it with a time of Social-Emotional Choice play.
