How many books can I check out and how long can I keep them?
Books are checked out for 2 weeks at a time. Most classes come to the library weekly, but families can keep books for an extra week if desired. After two weeks, books are overdue.
Kindergarten
Fall semester - 1 book and 3 eBooks/digital audiobooks
Spring semester - 3 books and 3 eBooks
1st - 5th grades
5 books, 3 eBooks/digital audiobooks, 1 digital playaway (ipod-like devices with pre-recorded books)
Sometimes students are allowed more books at teacher's request if for a long term project
There may be restrictions based on popular, new, etc. books. Ex. Students may only check out 1 book of a certain popular series at a time.
Parents
5 books, 1 digital playaway
What do I do if I have an overdue, damaged, or lost book?
Overdue Books
Please return or renew as soon as possible
Books can be renewed online or unseen once. To renew past that, the book must physically be brought into the library to renew
We do not charge fines, but if the book is missing for an extended period of time, it will be assumed lost and must be paid for
Damaged Books
Please do not attempt to repair books at home unless wet
If wet, quickly separate and spread out wet pages with paper towels to prevent mold. Books can also be gently dried with a hairdryer
If a book has any mold or is otherwise damaged beyond repair (at the librarian's discretion), the student will need to pay for the book
Please do not personally replace books without first discussing with the librarian. We generally do not accept paperback books, and we try to purchase the majority of our books from library book vendors under district contract.
Lost Books
Lost books will need to be paid for by the student or guardian.
We will try to help find the book by checking the shelves, checking with the teacher, etc., however, if the books is not in the library, the student will be held responsible
Places to check before considering the book lost:
All over the house (a picture of the book cover can usually be found on the students' library account - see first FAQ to learn how to access)
Cars
Friend's/parents/grandparents, etc. houses
Classroom - book box, ask around class, in the desk, in the teacher's classroom library
Shelf on the library - we have had books that didn't scan properly end up on the library shelves. We always check the shelves before charging a student for a lost book
The student who checks the book out is responsible for the book. I tell students not to let friends borrow their books because if the friend loses it, the student who checked it out is still responsible. Hopefully, the friend who lost it will pay for it, but because we recommend against lending checked-out library books, the student who checked it out is ultimately responsible for the book
