In 4th and 5th grade all over the the country, students begin to learn the recorder in their music class! Why recorder? I understand there is a big stigma about "that annoying instrument that squeaks and squeals" but when taught and played correctly there are so many benefits to it!
Recorder is one of the easiest instruments for young students to learn! It is small enough to fit their hands well, and don't take too much air to create a mature sound. The other benefits are:
- Hand eye coordination
- Connecting music literacy to an instrument
- Building on prior knowledge
- Prepares students for middle school music classes (band, orchestra)
