Counseling Services
Classes receive monthly lessons on personal development and social/emotional topics such as mindfulness, positive self regard, peer relations, career awareness, feelings management, bully prevention. All counseling lessons focus on at least one of the following competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social-Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making.
Individual meetings with students consist of brief, solution-focused, strengths-based interventions to assist children with difficulties that may negatively affect them during the school day. Sessions are limited, and referrals to outside providers are available for more in-depth counseling as appropriate. School counseling is not equivalent to outside counseling or therapy.
Small groups meet to address a variety of student concerns and develop skills to deal with life issues such as feelings management, family changes, friendship, social skills, grief, self esteem, and stress management. Students look forward to these activity-based sessions.
Collaboration and consultation is available to parents/guardians and staff in planning and growth in the areas of academics, social-emotional and behavioral needs.
