A translator interprets or transcribes written text from one language into another.
A cultural broker works to provide both the client and the clinician with the cultural context needed to understand each other’s meanings. To do this, they must understand something of the perspectives, cultural background, and social positions of both client and clinician, and appreciate the goals of the clinical task. An interpreter may simultaneously serve as a cultural broker.
