Coaching - What Is it?
Professional learning is a life-long process, and coaching is a way to collaborate and work toward a common goal for student success. Coaching is a form of professional development with someone who willingly engages in reflection and learning, and coaching results in reflective teachers who make decisions that further the learning and achievement of all students, every day.
Coaching is one form of PD, but it's a particularly effective form of PD because it's ongoing, job embedded, and differentiated.
Coaching - How Can I Help?
Please know, I am here to support you. My role is not to evaluate your teaching practices, but to team together as a thought partner so our students can be successful. Here are some ways I can offer some help:
Help with lesson planning or creating assessments
Navigate the ARRC
Model lessons
Team teach
Talk through a lesson before you teach it
Reflect on a lesson after you teach it
Have problem-solving conversations about student behavioral or instructional needs
Find, explore, and share resources
Observe lessons to provide feedback (not to evaluate)
Analyze student work or data and plan next steps
Coaching Cycles!
Mini-Coaching Cycles
In addition to a traditional coaching cycle, which typically lasts about 4-6 weeks, a mini-coaching cycle is a great way to work together. A mini-coaching cycle lasts 3 weeks and is focused on a narrow, specific goal. We would meet approximately twice a week for planning, analysis of student data/observations, co-teaching or modeling, and reflection.
