A little about me...

I was born in sunny Miami, Florida. After spending my first year in Miami, I moved with my Mom, Dad, and one and a half year old sister to Cairo, Egypt. After a short stay of six months in Cairo, my family and I moved again to England before spending the next ten years living in the beautiful country of Singapore. We moved to Houston, Texas when I was twelve years old, and after high school, I moved to Austin to attend UT. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 2005 with a degree in Elementary Education specializing in Communication Science Disorders and Reading Instruction. I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Arlington, completing my Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction - Literacy Studies. I am enjoying learning and growing in the area of literacy!

My teaching career began in Lago Vista ISD, teaching fourth grade at Lago Vista Elementary for two years. I had a strong support system those crucial first years of teaching, with wonderful teachers and administrators who supported my development as a classroom teacher and as an instructor of literacy. An opportunity to teach in a multi-age classroom opened at Brentwood Elementary in Austin ISD, and I team-taught in a second/third grade multi-age class, as well as a third/fourth grade multiage classroom for eight years. I loved team teaching, and inevitably, my former partner teacher is now one of my best friends. At Brentwood, I also had the opportunity to practice and become a Tribes SEL Trainer, and learned the value of Social Emotional Learning and building a community in the classroom. Most recently, I taught with an amazing team at Rutledge Elementary in Leander ISD, teaching fourth grade for three years, the last two with a focus on Language Arts instruction. I am thrilled that my teaching journey led me to support the wonderful teachers and students at Bluebonnet and Deep Wood, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year.

I live with my husband, Eric, and our two cats, Oliver and Othello, in Austin, Texas. I spend my free time reading, crafting, and playing games. I also love seeing live music and watching Longhorn football games. Hook 'em!
