What to Expect from Rosetown

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen community through inclusive, playful community experiences.

We strive to stick to this mission through the whole rehearsal and performance process! We value both our product and process: we are going to have fun and learn and grow together, and in the end create a quality product. We value our community and it is important that everyone contributes and feels important throughout the process.

Cast Size

As a part of our inclusive mission, we strive to welcome many people to the show and our community. This means that we have large cast sizes–in the summer they are typically 95-125 people. We are adept and skilled in working with large casts and believe it creates for a special and exciting theater experience for cast and audience alike. We work to create moments for everyone to shine, no matter how large the cast.

Spanning Generations

We typically have cast ages range from 7 years on up to whoever will be in our show! We take pride in this and work to create a place where everyone feels valued. We assume that people will work towards mutual respect and we do our best as staff to cultivate a space where this is honored. Actors, staff, and volunteers will collaborate with people of all ages on a regular basis.

Rehearsal & Performance Space

We rehearse at Roseville Area Middle School (RAMS), primarily in the cafeteria. This is a non-air-conditioned space and can sometimes be quite warm in the summertime. We also perform in an outdoor venue (Como Pavilion) that is covered.

Your Commitment

Being in a show means more than coming to rehearsal. It also means practicing at home (lines, music, dancing), helping to publicize our show (telling everyone you know, helping put up posters, etc.), and having FUN with us. :)

We also ask that you commit to going on a journey with us to create something new and exciting: we will honor the show, and find ways to create Rosetown's very own Cinderella!

Your Time

We believe your time is valuable and work hard to respect it. We schedule rehearsals in a way that maximizes the time people are there and do not require cast members to be at rehearsal if we are not actively working on a scene or part you are in. As we get closer to the show we will "run the show" and so this will mean some waiting when you are not in scenes, but that is only as we get closer to the performances.

Parents & Guardians

If you have a youth auditioning with us, we encourage family and friends to come be a part of the show! We believe that being a part of a show together can be a wonderful way to spend time together. If the family can't all be in it, we welcome just kids. Parents/guardians are not required or needed to be at rehearsal, but we ask that particularly when your youth are younger, you work to help them stay on track with practicing at home and helping us address any issues as come up. We also ask that parents/guardians give our staff the space to do their work and not interrupt or interfere with the rehearsal process.

Communication & Support

We are committed to making this a positive experience for every individual involved. Jessica (stage manager) is the main point of contact for cast members, but people are welcome to speak with any member of our staff. Jessica works to have strong communication with our cast (at least weekly e-mails with info, available by phone and email) and have a strong availability for questions when people have them (phone, e-mail, and at rehearsal).

Financial Commitment

There is no participation fee for being in a Rosetown play. There are some incidental costs, like supplying some costume pieces and the correct type of shoes for dancing. We do not want costs to prohibit anyone from participating and will work with you to assist with these incidentals. We want your family to see the show you have worked hard to create, so we offer a complimentary ticket, and will not turn away audience who are unable to pay for a ticket.

Your "financial support" comes in bringing in lots of friends and family to see the show, helping to advertise it, being connected on social media …... And when it is all over, if you had a great time and you are able, we will gladly accept a donation or welcome you as a sustaining member of Rosetown.
