Characters

Big Fish features a cast of wonderful, fun characters. We're looking for cast members who can bring these characters to life in dynamic and engaging ways. 

As you read through this character list, do not get caught up in stereotypes of how these characters have been played in the past if you're familiar with the show.  In this show the identity (e.g., gender, race)  of the characters is not necessarily pivotal to the plot. 

Character List

It is possible that we will cast Old and Young versions of Edward, Sandra, and Jenny. 

Large or Medium-sized roles with lots of solo lines and solo singing:

Edward – A charming, charismatic storyteller. A devoted yet absent father nearing the end of his life and wanting to reconnect with his son. He is comfortable in his own skin, but hopes for Will’s approval. He loves his wife, his son, and telling stories. 

Sandra – Edward's wife. She is patient, calm, the perfect balance to Edward’s enthusiasm. She adores and appreciates Edward and tries to bring reconciliation to her husband and son.

Will – An earnest, thoughtful young man wanting to reconnect with his father, but unable to appreciate Edward’s romantic view of life. He is a successful professional, new husband, and an expectant father. 

Young Will – Edward’s son, approximately 10, precocious and intelligent. Isn’t quite sure if his Dad’s stories are real

Josephine – Will’s wife. Successful, intelligent, new bride and expectant mother. 

Karl – Edward’s best friend and a giant. Karl is shy, exceptionally intelligent, and hermit-like. Will perhaps be on stilts!

Amos – Eccentric owner of the circus that employs young Edward. Also, a werewolf.

Witch – Mysterious and knowledgeable. Convinces Edward to pursue a big life without fear. 

Jenny Hill – Edward’s devoted, first girlfriend. A dreamer. 

Don Price – Snarky bully. Sandra’s first fiancé.

Zacky Price – Nerdy brother and shadow of Don Price.

Doctor Bennett – Warm, kind, but frank. Edward’s friend and physician.

Alabama Lambs – Young Sandra’s friends. Perform with Sandra at the circus.
