This is a list of common questions that people often have before auditioning . . . chances are your questions will be answered here. And if not, e-mail Hannah at stagemanager@rosetownplayhouse.org!
Do I have to be there for every rehearsal?
You need to be present for all rehearsals when your role is practicing. For individuals with lead roles this probably means most, if not all, rehearsals. However, if you have a role with fewer lines or an ensemble role, you will not have to be at every rehearsal for the whole time, particularly towards the beginning of the rehearsal process. We will provide a detailed schedule at the beginning of the rehearsal process that outlines exactly when you need to be present.
How many parts are there?
This show has a large number of roles, many more than most people think! There will be spots for adults, teens, and kids to shine in this show. The show is filled with many memorable scenes, and there will be many ways for the cast to be involved! This is a show where a majority of cast members will be singing, dancing, and be in scenes around the city.
What is the rehearsal schedule?
In general, the rehearsal schedule will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week from 6:15-9:00pm, but most cast members will not have rehearsal everyday, and younger cast members will be scheduled earlier in the evening. During tech week (the week right before the show opens) we will have the Sunday rehearsal (July 5 from 1-5pm) and rehearse every night that week with slightly extended rehearsal hours. To see a tentative rehearsal schedule, visit the Calendar page.
I've never been in a Rosetown show . . . is Rosetown for me?
We sure hope so! We embrace people of all backgrounds at Rosetown. For us, it's about coming together as a community to create a quality show, but we want to have a lot of fun in the process, too (and we certainly do!). Whether it's your first show or you are a theater veteran, we welcome you!
One unique thing about Rosetown is we have large, intergenerational casts. This leads to a number of magical moments, and also means that we are often in large groups. If working with large, intergenerational groups isn't for you, this may not be an environment for you.
I have a great headshot and/or resume I'd like to share–how should I do this?
Just bring it to your audition and we'd be happy to take it when you check in.
Can I bring words/a script for when I do my audition?
We recommend you do your audition from memory because that will allow you to engage more. However, if this is a deal-breaker you may bring some small notes.
Are there really parts for adults and kids?
Most of the speaking and solo singing roles are for adults. There will also be a handful of named character parts for younger cast members. However, because the show is set in a town, there are people of all ages. So whether you’re auditioning on your own, with friends, or with your real family, you’ll find a Big Fish family!
I really want a part–should I prepare a longer song so that the directors can hear more of me?
Although we would certainly value hearing more from you, we want to make sure we have plenty of time to hear all of our auditioners and keep the process moving efficiently. Our directors are very experienced at what they do and will have a strong sense of your abilities from your one-minute audition. If they need to hear more, they'll ask!
I dislike filling out forms online–can I do it on paper somehow?
Sure! You can fill out a paper version of the form at the audition.
Can kids under 8 participate?
Generally we need cast members to be at least 8 years old to participate. If you have a child younger than 8 and you as the adult will be participating in the show, we are willing to consider them, but still cannot guarantee we will be able to cast them. Contact the stage manager (Hannah) for more information at stagemanager@rosetownplayhouse.org.
What about if I can't be at one of the performances–can I still be in the show, even as a member of the chorus?
Every person in our shows is important and others depend on them. Therefore, if you cannot be present for a performance (even one), then you will not be able to be in the show this summer.
If I have a child in the show do I need to be at all rehearsals?
No, if the child is comfortable and confident being there on their own. Hannah (stage manager) will be in touch if there are ways we need your support with your youth cast member.
Do I need to be a Roseville resident to participate?
No! It doesn't matter where you live, you're welcome in our shows!
What kinds of songs and dances are there?
This show has many big dance and singing numbers. The dances and songs range in their feel. Most of these numbers have many people in them. There will be all-cast numbers and then some with smaller groups and solos based on skill level and roles. There also may be the opportunity for some featured tap dancers!
