Hi, I’m Bri — therapist, movement lover, surf-and-acro enthusiast, and the creator of Root to Roam.
I’m a little bit science, a little bit soul, and a whole lot of movement. My background is a blend of things you don’t usually find all in one, which is probably why I love creating retreats where people get to explore all parts of themselves.
And Root to Roam was built from that exact combination.
I’ve taught in wellness centers, on beaches, in aerial rigs, in surf towns, and everywhere in between. Creating spaces where people feel free, supported, and gently invited into their own magic is what I love most.
I bring together:
Yoga Teacher Training (200 hour YTT)
Somatic nervous system tools
AcroYoga and partner balance
Movement arts & playful embodied practices
Trauma-informed behavior science (BCBA)
Physiology + biomarker tracking (HRV, sleep, stress, Oura)
Thai massage & bodywork
Aerial arts (Certified Aerial Teacher Trainer)
60 hour Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate
I’ve spent years living, learning, teaching yoga, and surfing through Nicaragua, Hawaii, Panama, and the Philippines—following the question: What helps people feel grounded, alive, brave, and connected?
What I’ve found is this:
Science helps the mind.
Movement helps the body.
Play helps the soul.
If you’re looking for a retreat that blends research-backed tools with ocean time, presence, movement, community, and a sense of adventure—you’ve found your place.
Expect science, heart, movement, nature, curiosity—and plenty of moments that simply feel good to be alive for.

Steve Cummings and Gina Shiotani are an acro duo from California who blend uplifting artistry, playful exploration, and precision partner acrobatics. Together they teach and perform in San Diego and around the world at events, workshops, festivals, and retreats—always in service of inspiring wonder through movement.
Their work spans a wide range of styles, from creative acro yoga flow to standing acrobatics, therapeutic lunar expression, powerful dynamic skills, and the elegant grace of acro adagio. At the heart of everything they do is community—that magical space where movement and human connection meet.
What they bring together:
Creative acro yoga & partner flow
Standing acrobatics & precision training
Therapeutic lunar & nervous-system-aware movement
Dynamic acro skills & playful exploration
Community-based practice, connection & play
Outside of acro, Steve moonlights as a viking impressionist, hot spring hunter, and collector of fallen stars. When she isn’t flying through the air, Gina can be found surfing, eating sushi, or tending her garden.
