The green balloon fellowship is New Orleans' first direct high-school-to-employment technology fellowship.
The green balloon fellowship is a one year commitment to work at an entry-level position at a local technology company. The roles and companies vary are dependent on the fellow's interests and skill set.
Fellows are intensively coached and supported by the manager at their placement company, as well as by a green balloon fellowship coach. At the end of the year fellowship, successful fellows will have the opportunity to continue working at their placement company.
Rooted Foundation seeks to provide underserved and talented teenagers with career and financial pathways. One way we do this is through the green balloon fellowship (gbf).
The gbf connects recent high school graduates, who have studied technical skills throughout high school, to jobs with pioneering companies in their local region.
Since June 2021, 9 rooted school graduates have begun working at various companies throughout the Greater New Orleans area. The roles fellows were placed in include Payroll Associate, Integrations Fellow, Information Services Team member, among others. Fellows receive ongoing support and training from their placement companies, as well as from the green balloon fellowship team.
The gbf aims to expand the fellowship to provide opportunities to approximately 20 graduates from the Class of 2022 in the New Orleans area.
