RFA Bands
Mr. Jacob Meiss
Concert Band
Band students are placed into Concert Band or Wind Ensemble based on their proficiency on their instrument. Most 9th grade students are in Concert Band.
The music in Concert Band presents a fun challenge, and a step up from Strough band music. Ninth grade is a year of huge growth for most band students as they improve their skills to get ready for Wind Ensemble.
Most band students have lessons with Mr. Meiss, but Mr. Decker teaches percussion lessons at RFA one day each week.
Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is reserved for the finest musicians on each instrument, and is composed of mainly 11th and 12th grade students.
Auditions take place at the end of each school year.
Additional Opportunities
In addition to the standard RFA Winter, Pops, and Spring Concerts, both bands perform in the Fall Band Concert and All City Band Festival, They also participate in the NYSSMA Major Organizations Festival each year, with Concert Band performing level 4 repertoire, and Wind Ensemble performing level 6 repertoire.
